Four years after arriving in South Africa in the year 2000, Mapumba released his first album and sold thousands of copies out of his car boot. Since then his catalog has risen to many singles and albums. 


After this first album, he got signed for a distribution and marketing deal with Next Music, a record label distributed by The Orchard Distribution Network. Two of his songs were later featured on the popular Putumayo CD compilations, which lead to tours in cities across the US, Puerto Rico and Canada in North American.


Mapumba Cilombo is a singer-songwriter, storyteller, music producer and a voice for wellbeing based in Cape Town, South Africa. He was born in Kolwezi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He did his high school is Zambia before living in Namibia for a short while.


Mapumba has spent many years exploring different music genres, cultures and wellbeing tools that can help people heal and evolve for themselves, their family, community and our world. 


He grew up listening to the greats like Papa Wemba and Tshala Muana. During his years in Ndola, Zambia, he discovered international legends such as Tracy Chapman, Bill Withers, Miriam Makeba and others, whose soulful influences feature strongly in his sound.


From 2004 to 2012, Mapumba worked as a freelance TV presenter for Studio 53, a lifestyle program that showcased cultural events, historical places, art and notable personalities from across Africa. During this time, he traveled to over a dozen African countries to cover inspiring sites and stories.
