Mapumba's recent song "Breathe" showcases the particular quality of his sound. A sound that is fluid in crossing afro-pop, soul, folk, traditional music, and dance genres.
When Mapumba arrived in South Africa, he performed in venues around town and participated in various music shows while studying sound engineering and producing his debut album. He then moved to Johannesburg where he quickly landed a performance residency at a prominent restaurant where he performed solo shows as well as band events weekly. During this time he released his debut album which he sold on CD, from his car boot.

Mapumba left the Democratic Republic of Congo as a teenager and joined his elder brother in Zambia where he did his high school. He then followed his love for music and headed south of Africa to find a place to develop this passion. After spending a short while in Namibia, Mapumba ended up in South Africa.

During this early period, Mapumba also got casted for a lifestyle program Called Studio 53 as a freelance TV presenter.  He traveled to many countries to cover inspiring sites and stories for the program.
These experiences show up in his music through songs and performances. Which makes his recordings and shows very particular and unique.
